Hand-colored sixth-plate daguerreotype of Frederic William Greenleaf (1820-1850), whose life was the inspiration behind the Lend a Hand Society, a private Boston charitable organization founded by Unitarian minister Edward E. Hale in 1891. The photograph was taken ca. 1850 by an unknown photographer. Enclosed is a note in the hand of Edward Hale Greenleaf that identifies the photograph.
